As it has been six months since our fundraising dinner, this seems like the perfect time to update on our progress in Jinja. You can view the newsletter here, but here’s a brief summary…
Thanks to your generosity we have been able to rebuild the dormitories at Twinkle community school. These will be ready for two hundred children between the ages of 5 and 12 to have a safe and comfortable place to stay form the start of the new school year in January. Each block will have solar power so children can read, study and play safely.
Our well-equipped resource centre holds regular teacher training for all the schools in the JET group. This is guided by teachers from the UK who visit three times a year and continually monitor the schools progress through assessments and regular updates from the Jinja team.
Of course, we have fun too, including sports days day for all the schools – which fittingly just happened to be held on UNICEF’s World Children’s Day.
There is so much more to our story. We have come a long way in 11 years and there is still so much to do. It is only with your help that we can offer the sustainable support needed to foster the next generation of young people, making them able to face the developing world as equals.
Sue and all of us at JET.
